Bernhard Fograscher

Bernhard Fograscher, born in Romania in 1965, received his musical training at the “Meistersinger” Conservatory in Nuremberg with Erich Appel, at the Hamburg Musikhochschule with Marian Migdal and at Indiana University Bloomington, U.S.A. Master classes with György Sebok, Miriam Fried, as well as encounters with György Ligeti and Helmut Lachenmann provided important stimuli.

Bernhard has performed in numerous European countries as well as in North America, and has produced recordings for BR, SWR, WDR, NDR, TV Cultural, Radio Difusione Romania and for American radio stations. In a musical  tour of Romania supported by the German Music Council, he produced a two-part television portrait for TV Romania.

Bernhard Fograscher has a passionate commitment to contemporary music and rarely-heard repertoire, and also devotes himself to numerous conceptual projects. He was awarded the Lauenburg Culture Prize for ‘Moments Musicaux Mölln’, conceived the ‘Night of the Four Moons’ – a  tribute to Georg Crumb for the Hamburg Academy of Music and directed Georges Aperghis’ ‘Théâtre Musical Le petit Chaperon Rouge’, as well as  created the concert series ‘Sichtweisen – Hörwelten’ for the Hamburg-based foundation ‘Feldtmannkulturell’.

Bernhard Fograscher has made guest appearances at the Ruhr Piano Festival, the Lower Saxony Music Days, the Cervantino Festival in Mexico, the Making New Waves Festival Budapest, and at Kampnagel Hamburg he participated in Matthias Spahlinger’s ‘Farben der Frühe’ for 7 Pianos as well as the  dance performance Dezett, among many others. His musical partners have included Dietrich Henschel, Ingolf Turban and Wen-Sinn Yang, the Orchestra de Camera Radio Bucharest, the Philharmonic Orchestra Brasov, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and the Indiana University Symphony Orchestra. A widely acclaimed debut CD with Christoph Schickedanz paved the way for numerous recordings for audite, bayer records and telos music records.

After teaching at Indiana University and the HfK Bremen, Bernhard Fograscher has been teaching at the HfMT Hamburg since 2005.
